It's 12 of 12 for December!  Happy holidays! I went to a holiday concert with Jessica and forgot my camera at her house where we were getting ready; so the photos of the concert are from Jess' camera phone.  Thank you Jess for putting up with me telling you, "We have to take a picture!" every 5 minutes.  :-)

7:09am - my packed bag.  Only running about 10 minutes behind.

7:16am - Pea soup in the neighborhood.

8:56am - from one of the windows in the office - there's supposed to be a bay behind Sts Peter & Paul Church.

12:11pm - Grabbed lunch with Devin at Chevy's.  I was talking about something random, probably about work, and he interrupts me and says, "I'm sorry, my mind just went to a dirty place."  I was so confused for a second because nothing I said could be misconstrued as dirty, but then he showed me the drinks menu.

12:59pm - Big, red balls outside my office building.

3:53pm - We got a Harry & David's gift basket.  It only took me a couple of hours before I really started craving a pear.  The one on the bottom right in the brown-ish paper was soon in my tummy.

7:11pm - dinner with Jessica in Potrero Hill.  SUCH good pasta.  Maybe I'll remember the name of the restaurant...or maybe Jess will just comment and remind me.  Again.

9pm-ish:  The start of the camera phone pics

After one glass of champagne:  Alice 97.3's Holiday Concert - Sarah & Vinnie's Green Christmas.  Headliner was Alanis Morrisette, but I was there for Sarah Bareillis.

After two glasses of champagne:  Hard to tell, but that's Ingrid Michaelson.  Yes, the "I'll buy you Rogaine, when you start losing all your hair" girl.

10:30pm-ish:  Sarah B singing Gravity.

After three glasses of champagne:  Me, trying to look cute.  My left hand, the one you can't see, is holding that third glass of champagne.

Hope you all enjoyed this edition of 12 of 12 - don't forget to check out CHAD'S site for more twelvers and more info on 12 of 12.

On my way to the Jimmy Buffet concert - feel like I've been waiting forever for this concert. I'm not going with the person I planned to go with, but I love the people that are joining me and I know we'll have a blast.
I definitely am in need of some drinks.

She just finished singing "Don't Rain on my Parade" before going to intermission. Just listening to her sing that song made me feel out of breath.
This is so absolutely fantastic, I'm so glad I decided to get tickets for mom, laura and me.

Lucky me won a trip to Atlanta to see the John Mayer concert on Friday night.  Not only that, but it includes round trip airfare for two, a two nights stay at a pretty nice hotel in downtown Atlanta, PLUS a meet & greet BBQ with John Mayer himself.  We also get to attend the pre-show sound check.  I've had some time to let this sink in...so I probably don't sound as excited as i feel.  I'm SUUUUUUPER excited.

I'm going with my sister, Laura, so it should be a girly blast of a time.  Karl offered to go if Laura couldn't work her schedule out, but, not that I wouldn't love to go away for a weekend with my man, but he's not exactly the world's biggest John Mayer fan, and that's what's required to attend this trip.  :-)

So I'm off early tomorrow morning to Atlanta and I'll be back on Saturday evening.  The best news about this is that I will be missing most of the playoff series.  I love the A's, but I don't think it's healthy for my heart to continue watching.  Even when we're winning I'm spazing out!  (I'm giving my Danny Haren bobble head a good-luck rub now before I leave work)

See ya'll when I get back!!

(Like how I threw  in the ya'll?)

I saw an awesome concert last night at The Fillmore. Jamie Cullum with special guest David Ryan Harris. I’m sure a lot of people attending last night had no clue who DRH was, but I saw him jam with John (Mayer) this summer at Shoreline. He blew me away then with his guitar skills and so I was excited to see him solo. I was quite pleased with his easy-cool personality – the way he came strolling out on stage like he didn’t care that he was in front of a packed room that wasn’t there for him. He didn’t try to win us over like other opening acts I’ve seen. He came to play. After the first couple of songs the crowd began to realize how awesome his smooth melodies and lyrics are and they began to sway and groove with him. With the audience hooked, DRH began to joke around and open up. He told some stories – like driving the “long ass drive” from Seattle to San Francisco overnight and then wanting to nap in the hotel before his sound check but was prevented from doing so by the cracked-out drumming and screaming from the strikers below. He clued us in on the history of his some of his songs and lyrics and even got the audience singing along on “Good Thing,” a song about the end of a relationship, the type where you think it’s mutual but the other person won’t leave. DRH is poppy without becoming sickening. He’s got that quarter-life crisis lyric thang going on, but he’s maybe just a little more insightful than some of the others. And even better than his fast-moving finger talent on the guitar, he’s got one great vocal range, dipping down as low as Barry White and then reaching way up into an unbelievable falsetto that’s pure and strong. I can’t believe DRH has been along for so long (he’s released eight CDs since 1991) but he’s only just now finding his place in the music world. I have no doubt that he’ll be back next year, this time headlining with his own “special guest.”

As for the main act…
Jamie Cullum has hit the states in a big way. Or, being only his third performance on his recent U.S. tour, he definitely hit San Francisco HARD last night. Standing on the edge of the Fillmore stage at the end of the show, just out of reach of the spotlight and half in the shadows with his band mates, drummer Sebastian and bass player Geoff (??) on either side of him, Jamie took a small bow while watching the cheering crowd with a type of wide-eyed wonder. He must have received standing ovations and heard screaming crowds before, but he looked so grateful, so shocked at our complete embrace of him. Within the span of a couple of hours, we had fallen so in love with Jamie, his music, his goofy style of dancing and jumping around the stage mixed with his huge boyish charm pouring out of his petite frame. Jamie treated the audience to most of his multi-platinum album, Twentysomething,” a compilation of his unique blend of jazzy blues piano songs, but he also threw in a couple of new songs. We got a taste of his new single off the Bridget Jones II soundtrack, an upbeat jazz remake of “Everlasting Love,” a sing-a-long (one of many from last night) of “Light my Fire,” and Jamie even came back for a second (solo) encore, shushing the audience to complete silence with his simple rendition of “In the Wee Small Hours.” What I found most impressive with Jamie is how comfortable he is with music in general. There was not one song last night that sounded exactly like the cuts on his CD. He can twist, and manipulate every beat and chord to his liking in the moment – also a note to how talented his band mates were to keep up with it all – and it all comes out sounding like that’s what the song should have sounded like all along. Talk about multi-talented; last night he played the piano – his fingers flying so fast over the keys that they could have spontaneously exploded into flames – he played the guitar – all the girls were swooning – and he played the drums – mixing it up, going from keeping a simple beat to beating the hell out of the snare and cymbal. He was funny, he was witty and most of all he was damn entertaining to watch. At one point while performing “Singing in the Rain,” he split the audience into three sections, giving each one a little “doo-be-dee-da” lyric and harmony to sing underneath his melody. I have never in my life been in a crowd that size singing such beautiful harmony. I think Jamie was rather impressed with us…as we were with him.
I’m (obviously) recommending each of these albums, so check out both performers at the following links:

Enjoy!
